The early beginnings of Dudley Lions F.C., formally known as Revival fires F.C. actually stem from Champions Church in the Netherton/Dudley area of the Black Country.
It was there that as manager of the then named Sweet Turf F.C. (later to be named Champions Church) I was blessed to manage the team, that included current fixture secretary Shawn Devonport, to the West Bromwich And District Christian Football League Championship and the cup final, where we were beaten by Calvary Church. This was, rather unfortunately, our first and only season in the league.
Several years later, I was given the opportunity to help run a community/police organised Friday football evening at a local school which put me in touch with, what has turned out to be, most of the first ever squad of Revival Fires F.C.
After much prayer and consultation with my family, a decision was made to approach the senior leaders of the church with the idea of setting up a team and entering it into the WMCFL for the 2010/11 season. Thankfully, they agreed with my idea and gave us their blessings. There have also been several very generous individuals who have helped fund the start up costs.
Over the years the squad has changed quiet a bit, with players coming and going, but we have always managed to survive and are now considered one of the more established teams in the West Midlands Christian Football League.
The boys are all from the local area and, I can honestly say, are an absolute joy to both manage and be involved with.
As with every grassroots football team, funding is extremely difficult if not nearly impossible to find, so when the opportunity came at the start of the 2013/14 season to forge an alliance with Christian T.V. giant United Christian Broadcasting, we jumped at the chance. That season (2013/14) turned out to be our best yet, with the club reaching the 1/4 finals of the WMCFL league cup, the semi finals of the divisional cup, and gain promotion to the 2nd division by finishing 3rd in the league.
Towards the end of the season, another opportunity came our way for additional sponsorship via website design giant Irinika Media, who have very generously sponsored our club hoodies, and we here at Dudley Lions F.C. want to say a huge thank you to both our sponsors for their generosity and look forward to developing our relationship in the coming seasons.
